Beware of Single Dose Laundry Detergents

Hassles with the Laundry

One of the newest trends in laundry is the single-dose laundry detergent.  The packs offer a perfect dosage for a normal size load and are helpful for those traveling to the Laundromat or in apartment buildings.

Consumer Reports recently conducted several test and found many drawbacks with the product. According to their reports cleaning performance was poor. And beyond test performed at Consumer Reports there have been many reports of safety issues.

There have been more than 700 calls to poison control centers as a result of young children who have tried to eat the packs or rubbed the detergents in their eyes.

As stated by Dr. Michael Buehler, Medical Director of the Carolina’s Poison Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, in the Consumer Reports article, “when children come into contact with these packs, a significant number of them will develop serious illness, which might include vomiting and lethargy. In some cases, they’ll even stop breathing and require ventilation support.”

Lessons in laundry and clothing care

While there are many drawbacks to the single-dose packs the convenience of the pack convinces many to use them. Be careful if this is a choice you make.
